SALSA 2025 Biennial Conference

The XV SALSA Biennial Conference 2025 curates a film programme that explores the conference theme Co-Creations and Silences. We call for ethnographic and artistic films that address any aspect of life of lowland South America, its diverse peoples, environments, politics, legal issues, economics, or engage in co-research with local communities, more-than-humans, or other entities and organisations. 

We invite proposals for feature length, short films, student works, research films, and experimental works that engage with the co-creation ethos. While there is no running time limit, we give priority to short and medium films (up to 60 minutes). All films shall be in the original language(s) with English, Spanish or Portuguese subtitles. Indigenous and local community productions are highly encouraged.

Selected films will be screened during the conference, followed by a moderated discussion where filmmakers will have the opportunity to reflect on their work and its relation to the conference themes.

Film proposals must contain: 

1. Film title 
2. Description of the film highlighting its relevance to the theme of the conference (150 to 250 words) 
3. Director(s)’ Biography (up to 150 words per person) 
4. A link to a downloadable file (on One Drive or Google Drive) or a shareable online preview version (on YouTube or Vimeo). The link can be password protected (please provide a password in the form). The link must be active until notification of acceptance/rejection. 
5. Credits and specifications: production year, country of origin, country of filming, language(s), shooting format, aspect ratio, funding, previous screenings, and awards (if applicable). 
6. Optionally: still photos and a link to the trailer. 

The call for films will be open until the 31st of January 2025. All proposals will be reviewed by 28th February 2025. 

Upon acceptance of your film, please be ready to provide: 

1. Authorization for the screening of the film at the XV SALSA Biennial Conference 2025
2. Authorization for the use of images in the promotional materials of the Conference. 

In order to be included in the final program, all organizers and participants of panels, workshops, and special events must pay BOTH the SALSA membership fee as well as the conference fee by 31st March 2025. The conference does not offer screening fees. The registration will open on February 1, 2025. The SALSA membership and conference fees are as follow:

The conference fee includes coffees throughout the three conference days and the conference dinner. Indigenous participants’ conference and membership fees will be waived.
