At-Large Member of the Board 2026-2028

I’m excited to have the chance to run for an At-Large Position on the SALSA Board of Directors. Since my early days of grad school, SALSA’s culturally vibrant, intellectually stimulating, and socially committed community has played a key role in my development as a scholar. My research is situated at the intersection of linguistic, psychological, and environmental anthropology, with particular focus on children. I am currently based at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich as PI of a research group investigating the impact of environmental change on moral socialization. For over 15 years I’ve been working with the Aché communities in Paraguay on language documentation and revitalization, public health, and environmental change. Recent publications include papers on ontological aspects of languageenvironmental change and child socialization, and the relationship of ethics and ontology in colonial encounters. My activism includes support of language education and revitalization and public health campaigns, such as tackling a hepatitis B epidemic and constructing a primary care clinic. Language change, healthcare, and environmental transformations are core issues of concern to lowland South American communities, and I would be thrilled to use my expertise to support SALSA in promoting attention to these issues should the membership choose to elect me.
