Gilton Mendes dos Santos is Professor at the Department of Anthropology at the Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM) and coordinator of the Núcleo de Estudos da Amazônia Indígena (NEAI). He holds a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2001), a PhD in Social Science from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a Post-Doctoral Internship at the Laboratoire de Anthropologie Social at the Université de Nanterre (Paris X). Currently, he develops studies and research on indigenous groups and their relationship with Amazonian plants and landscapes and monitors the production of anthropological knowledge by indigenous students in the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology at UFAM.
