Awardees N & S Whitten Publication Subvention 2025-2026

Please join me and members of this year’s Norm and Sibby Whitten Publication Subvention Award Selection Committee (Evan Killick, chair, Lukas Keese and Juliana Oliveira Silva) in congratulating this year’s award winners.
The 2025-26 awardees are:
- José Carlos Almeida Cruz, for the book Bahsé ahpose – the rites of regeneration of waters and fish among the Piratapuia, to be published by Editora Mil Folhas.
- Nell Haynes, for the book Chola in a Choke Hold: Reimagining Indigeneity through Bolivian Lucha Libre, to be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press.
We express our deepest gratitude to Norm Whitten for his generosity and for making it possible for SALSA to grant these valuable awards. These forthcoming publications offer a beautiful and moving tribute to his legacy and to the memory of his beloved wife, Sibby.
