Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship 2025
About the Award
For every SALSA conference since 2016, a travel stipend of $500 has been awarded to a graduate student, recent PhD, or precariously employed member who wishes to present their work at the SALSA conferences. The Steven Lee Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship awards one scholarship of $500 for travel to the SALSA XV Biennial Conference.
This scholarship honors Steven Lee Rubenstein’s (1962-2012) outstanding career as a scholar of Lowland South American anthropology. The award will be granted to a student who continues the legacy of Steven Lee Rubenstein’s research trajectory in Lowland South America and whose work resonates with his broader interests in anthropology. His work is broadly situated within political economy and critical theory and engages with psychoanalytic and post-structuralist feminist theory.
Submissions should engage with at least some of Rubenstein’s thematic foci, which include, among others, systems of power, gender, shamanism, racism, education, and the historicity of Indigenous peoples. For a more detailed discussion of Steven Lee Rubenstein’s work see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Rubenstein; http://digitalcommons.trinity.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1145&context=tipiti
