Our hearts are heavy with the news of the passing of Neil Whitehead, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an inspiring colleague, mentor, and friend. Neil passed away in Madison after a bout with illness. He was well-known for his insightful approach to the ethnography of violence, shamanism, and death in the Guyanas, but Neil’s work also ranged widely and masterfully through ethnohistorical, archaeological, and philosophical pursuits.
