SALSA Social Media Coordinator 2026-
Camila Barros Coelho is a doctoral candidate in Cultural Anthropology at Purdue University. Originally from Belém, in the Brazilian Amazonia, she has a background in Journalism and professional experience in social media strategy and content creation across different organizations.
Based on collaborative ethnographic fieldwork among the Mẽbêngôkre-Kayapó, her dissertation research explores how internet connectivity is being incorporated into the relational systems that shape territory, governance, and media practices. Drawing on a feminist approach centered on women and youth, the research examines how digital tools and their sociotechnopolitics encounter existing forms of knowledge transmission, sociopolitical organization, and territorial stewardship. The dissertation foregrounds Mẽbêngôkre concepts, such as kukràdjà and mejkumrej, to understand how media practices are grounded in Indigenous frameworks of knowledge, autonomy, and collective self-determination.
