Fund raiser: The RED DE COMUNICADORES INDÍGENAS (Network Of Indigenous Spokespeople of Peru) for the Ucayali region

The RED DE COMUNICADORES INDÍGENAS (Network Of Indigenous Spokespeople of Peru) for the Ucayali region provides almost 100% of the reliable information available to/on the indigenous peoples in this part of the Amazon basin. Most of them belong to the Shipibo-Konibo tribe, who at present have the highest number of COVID-19-related deaths of indigenous groups in the country (65 people to May 21). Transmitting from the city of the regional capital Pucallpa, where hospitals have collapsed and people are dying for lack of health services, medicine, and oxygen, these 20 men and women risk their lives every day to keep their people informed and educated during these very adverse times. Unfortunately, several spokespeople and/or their household members have contracted COVID-19 and are now fighting for their recovery. We ask for your solidarity and economic support to pay for medical treatment, food, and local transportation, so that these indigenous spokespeople can continue broadcasting their various radio programs in Shipibo-Konibo and Spanish.
